Invitation for online and offline conferences on how to solve urban problems

Invitation for online and offline conferences ‘Building Bridges between the EU and Russia: local/regional politicians/activists in Russia, Poland, Czech Republic and the Netherlands’.

Dear colleagues,

Every local politician, regardless of the country s/he is from, faces the same type of questions: how do I handle contradicting interests, should I find compromises or not, how to communicate with citizens, companies, organizations. The same is true for activists, regardless of the country s/he is from:  how do I communicate with opposite interests, should I compromise or not, how to communicate with my local or regional government.

Your fellow local/regional politicians/activists are challenged to find solutions in the same way as you do.  Each has found their own way within the culture of their country.

We – a team of experienced politicians/activists from distinctive organizations – members of the Working Group on Citizens in Local Government of the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum – would like to invite you to share your experiences with your colleagues from Russia, Poland, Czech Republic and the Netherlands.

There are two stages in our project supported by the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum:

The first stage is an open public online discussion on November 2, 2021 at 9:00 – 12:30, where participants will present their cases of solving urban problems and discuss them with colleagues from European countries.

The second stage is a networking trip to the Netherlands in March 2022, where the participants will get acquainted with local activists and organizations.

Participants of the Networking Trip will be selected based on the November discussion.  Therefore, participation in the first stage is open for everyone.

Now, we are looking for participants from Russia, so if you are a local / regional politician or activist from the cities of the North-Western and Central Federal Districts, if you are interested in such topics as participation of citizens in the urban development, climate change, participatory budgeting, cycle economy, waste management, energy, we are inviting you to participate in our project. Firstly, we are looking for active participants of the November online discussion, and on its basis will define the participants of the Netherlands Networking Trip.

We are waiting for your motivation letters until October 4, 2021 on the E-Mail: dg@obmen.org.  Please tell us about you, your English knowledge, and describe one of your cases with positive or negative experiences in the urban problems solving. We will be glad to invite you first for the November discussion and later to the Netherlands, if our limited opportunities will allow us.
