From February 16 to February 22, 2020, we helped to organise an educational exchange of students of the North-West Institute of Management of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the University of Munich. 15 students from Russia and Germany met again in St. Petersburg after a similar meeting in Munich in autumn 2019.
In addition to the general programme of visiting the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg and working at the University, the students also studied various aspects of civil society development. In three groups, each consisting of five German and five Russian participants, they visited civil society organisations that deal with the topic of ecology, public and creative spaces, and international youth and volunteer exchange.
We were visited by the participants on the very first day, where they talked not only to us, but also to our colleagues from the Centre RNO. Besides, different groups visited the Open Space at Dostoevsky34, WasteConf from Trava, Stab Quartira “Resource Centre for Nonprofit Organisations”, Golitsyn Loft, German-Russian Meeting Center, Art Centre “Pushkinskaya 10”, met with representatives of the organisations “Perspektivy SPB” (Ekaterina Gusarova), environmental movement “Separate garbage collection” and Fridays for Future.
On the second to last day, a one-day seminar was held at the RANHHS Research Institute, where students presented the results of their research in Munich. Now students write in their group’s joint reports on their comparative studies of civil society organisations in Munich and St. Petersburg.
Now due to the Coronavirus epidemic all trips for spring 2020 have been cancelled, but we will be happy to organise similar programmes in St. Petersburg in the future. Write us if you have ideas and interest in cooperation.
