The project “Civic Participation in Local Self-Governance” is started

The German-Russian Exchange St. Petersburg in cooperation with the DRA e.V. and the deputies of the the Pankow City District in Berlin invites deputies and activists of the Vladimir District municipalities to participate in the project “Civic Participation in Local Self-Governance” supported by the German Foreign Ministry in 2020.

—  Participation in the project requires:participation in a week-long study trip to Berlin on the topic of civic participation in local self-governance, which includes meetings with Berlin municipal politicians and local initiatives, public discussions and urban tours on the topics of landscaping and gardening, local festivals and activities, work with various social groups, etc.

12 participants of the study trip will get paid tickets from St. Petersburg and accommodation. The exact dates of the trip (hopefully in October 2020) are not yet known, due to the uncertainty of the health regulations in Russia and Germany;

—  initiation and implementation of a small project in the Vladimirsky District in September-November 2020, within a group of 2-4 other deputies and activists. In total of 4 projects, each for 2500 Euro will be supported;

— participation in the welcoming programme in St. Petersburg of delegations of deputies and activists from Berlin in December 2020.


To participate in the project it necessary to send until August 17, 2020 an individual motivation letter and collective description of the project for a group of 2-4 other deputies and activists to be implemented in the Vladimirsky District in September – November 2020. One person can take part in no more than three applications. The description of the project
(3 pages) should include an explanation of its background, connection with the topic of civic participation in local self-governance, description of the purpose, proposed activities, potential for sustainability of the project in the future, budget draft for 2500 Euro, role of the project team members. Each project should include at least one public event.

The selection of projects and participants will be conducted by a jury consisting of German and Russian experts, urbanists and representatives of partner organisations. The decision about the elected projects and participants is expected by August 31, 2020.
