Having ensured the kind reception of foreign students, the school helps break down barriers of misunderstanding through small steps. Gradually, stereotypes about Russia break down, and schools can make a feasible contribution to the formation of diplomacy. Many participants in the exchange – they are forward-thinking, educated people aimed at further development. Many of them will be successful people in the future.

Svetlana Alexandrovna Simanova – director of school ¹ 312 in St. Petersburg, which is a host school participating in the school exchange program for one year in 2005-06
The program of Russian-German school exchange, from my point of view, is multifaceted. At the level of the individual child, first of all, it solves the problem of language learning through immersion in the foreign language environment, secondly, it adds to cultural learning (the way of life, customs, laws, regulations) of a different people, and thirdly, the child learns how to adapt and positively interact with their peers to build new models of behavior.
On the level of challenges, which the state creates for a school at the present stage, it solves the most important: naturally, gradually, and without coercion or undue mentoring, it forms and hones such qualities of tolerance, respect, and positive relationships to the representatives of a different country and to that country as a whole. The foreign child would come and they create a more open and understanding psychology toward the representatives of that country and toward the culture of the country in which they are living for a year.
Differences and distinctions are blurred between the children, and real strong friendships are fastened. If there is a conflict, then a solution is found from the tough situation with renewed force.
It’s possible to say, that the school exchange program expands the borders of the world for a child, making life for a teenager more colorful, bright and interesting. It raises an adolescent’s self-esteem because they understand that the chosen path to spend a year in a foreign country demands from them “adult” qualities such as patience, perseverance, constant analysis of psychological situations, positive thinking, self-analysis, etc.
I wish all the organizers of this program success and perseverance. Theprogramisnecessary, usefulandinteresting.
